Great Britain Rowing Trials - February 2009

Once again, Gemma and Vicky made the trip up to Boston for the third Long Distance Trial of the year. Even more Olympians were in attendance and this time Vicky finished 17th overall (6th place U23) with Gemma in 22nd place overall and 9th fastest U23.

These performances got them invited to a closed trial at Caversham (GB Rowing's 2k Training Lake near Reading) on Friday 20th February 2009 against the top performers from the 3 trials so far this season.

Vicky finished 3rd in the 'C Final' which ranks her 15th overall and 3rd fastest U23. Gemma was 6th in the 'C Final' which puts her 18th overall and 6th fastest U23.

Both girls are athletes on the Amateur Rowing Association's World Class Start Scheme sponsored by Siemens, a unique talent identification and development scheme. The programme is funded by UK Sport with Lottery money and since 2006 is sponsored by Siemens. The programme at Bath has identified four athletes for Great Britain teams in the past four years including one U23 World Champion. The athletes in Bath train at the University of Bath and at Minerva Bath Rowing Club.
