After plans to race in a Minerva Bath, Bath Uni, Army composite crew had to be shelved due to injury and availability issues, some of the WCS women have lined themselves up with some replacement crew mates.
Gemma, Helen and Vicky are now going to race in a new composite from Marlow, Minerva Bath, Reading Uni, Thames and Oxford Brookes. They will go off 180th in the 300 strong event as they are a new entry. (Last years results dictate the state order for this years race.)
The seating order has yet to be confirmed but includes numerous Olympic medallists and World Champions: Katherine Grainger, Sarah Winkless, Beth Rodford, Carla Ashford and Cath Bishop. The eight will be coxed by Caroline O'Connor who has coxed the GB women's eight in recent years and at the 2008 Olympics.
Gemma, Helen and Vicky are athletes on the Amateur Rowing Association's World Class Start Scheme sponsored by Siemens, a unique talent identification and development scheme. The programme is funded by UK Sport with Lottery money and since 2006 is sponsored by Siemens. The programme at Bath has identified four athletes for Great Britain teams in the past four years including one U23 World Champion. The athletes in Bath train at the University of Bath and at Minerva Bath Rowing Club.
